How do I create, save, and activate a trail on my Triton™?
Article
Answer: As you travel your Triton™ automatically drops electronic breadcrumbs to record your movements. These breadcrumbs are temporary waypoints that are created and stored while you travel and are displayed on the map screen as dotted lines. The common term for these breadcrumbs is track. A trail takes the current track and saves it to memory. The following steps will show you how to create, save, and activate a trail on your Triton.
Before you start you will want to clear any unwanted track history from your Triton™. To do this press
Menu
then select
View
.
Select
Tracks
and press
Enter
. In the
Tracks
menu select
Erase Track
and press
Enter
. Highlight the green checkmark by pressing
Enter
. Press
Escape
until you return to the map screen.
Your map screen should now be free of any track history and look similar to the screen on the right.
Walk or hike for about 450 feet. and your Triton will record enough track history, as shown in the example to the right with a GPS fix.
Now you can save the track history as a trail. Press
Menu
and select
Create
.
Select
Trail
and press
Enter
.
Now you can enter a name for the saved trail. Here you can either leave the default name or use the keypad to enter a unique name. When you are finished, select the green checkmark and press
Enter
, then press the
Escape
key twice to return to the map screen.
Next, press and hold the
GoTo
key until you see the GoTo menu, then select
Trail
and press
Enter
.
Note: Return to the starting point of the trail.
Highlight the trail you want to follow and press
Enter
.
Two icons will appear next to the selected trail. Select the
map
icon on the left and press
Enter
.
(The icon on the right is a trash can you can use to delete the trail. The icon on the left is a map icon you can use to view and activate a trail.)
The info screen containing information about the trail includes; vertical profile, start and end times, length, and total number of points created. Press
Enter
on the option to activate trail.
Note: To change the trail color, highlight blue box
and press
Enter
A preview of your saved trail including the length of the trail will appear. Press
Enter
again to activate your trail.
The map screen will display two flags; a green flag (initial starting point) and a red flag (indicates the finishing point of the trail). A pink point to destination line will appear to help guide you from your current location to the beginning of the trail.
As you follow along the saved trail you will see a pink line which updates to your next Go To point in the trail line. This will help you stay on track and guide you to the end of your trail.
When you arrive at your destination you will then need to cancel the route. Press Enter and select the
Cancel Route
option.
